I had read a lot of reviews about how good the courses are at Front Sight, and in the reviews, people tended to fall into 1 or 2 different categories. Some people said they couldn't believe how much they learned at Front Sight; others said how much they didn't know before they went. Going into it, I looked at it as a good excuse to go shoot for 4 days and to pick up a few tips.
I loved the course. After taking the course, I found that I fell into both of the
previously mentioned categories. I also was amazed at the number of incorrect
techniques that I had to unlearn in order to be a more proficient and safe shooter.
Front Sight's way of teaching things was a much better way of addressing many
shooting techniques. I was amazed at how much my shooting had improved over
the four days and can't wait to take the class again or perhaps the 2-Day Skill
Builder.
I have had my Concealed Carry Permit for a number of years. However, before this
class, I learned that I really previously had no concept of how quickly you need to be
able to present your weapon correctly and accurately, if you are going to carry your
weapon. After taking this class, I am of the opinion that you should not be allowed
to carry unless you take a class of this type and caliber.
I also liked the fact that, if needed, students did receive individualized attention
– and I fell into this category. On one occasion, a couple of the instructors took
me aside for a while to help me break a couple of bad habits I had learned in the
military. I also greatly enjoyed the lectures in the afternoon.
Do some shooting ahead of time and be familiar with your weapon before you go.
This 4-Day course is like a shooting marathon and you should be prepared. You are
going to be shooting approximately 200-250 rounds per day.
I also suggest that students bring sunscreen, chapstick, and hand cream.
Yes, I would suggest this course to others.
I flew from Indianapolis and transported my own weapon. I have flown a number of various weapons a number of times and do not encounter problems when doing this.
I stayed at the Silverton Casino in South Las Vegas.
I bought ammunition at the Ammo Bunker at Front Sight. The prices were competitive, being pretty close to what you could have found at a gun show.
I brought my lunch the first day and bought the rest at yellow stand at Front Sight.
I anticipate going a couple of times a year and taking a variety of classes, such as rifle, shotgun, Uzi, etc. I also may take the 4-day Defensive Handgun Course again, only this time with my daughter.
