How many people were in your class?

There were about 32 students with 2 instructors and a line coach.

What were your reasons for taking this specific course?

My reason was to improve my gun handling skills and to DG the course.

General Comments

I like the fact that we don't start shooting with concealment until the second day. The course has changed a little since that last time that I took it, and I believe that the changes were for the better. We shot more without concealment, which gave the people who hadn't taken the class lately more time to get used to our guns and Front Sight's drills. The only thing I didn't really like about the new changes was that I felt there was a little too much talking in the morning. I know that there are basics that the instructors needed to cover, but I thought that we could have started shooting earlier.

Another change that I noticed was there was no "guest appearance" by another range master or instructor. In my past experiences, there would always be someone who would show up to talk for about 5 minutes and maybe show us something with his gun.

I don't have any complaints about the range master of this course. Bill was very knowledgeable, and I really liked him. He gave us a number of tricks that I hadn't ever heard of.

My biggest grief with this course is that it is not enough to have only two instructors. The line coach was a carpenter and knew little about shooting and gun handling. He was really only there for safety reasons, so he wasn't any help like a real instructor would have been.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the course and had a lot of fun!

Do you have any tips for first-time students of this course?

After taking the 4-Day Defensive Handgun course, which is a prerequisite for this course, you will be fully prepared. Just be sure to have an open mind and listen to what the instructors have to say.

Would you suggest this course to others?

Absolutely!

How did you get there?

I flew from my home in NJ.

Where did you stay?

I stayed at the Best Western.

How did you handle the ammo situation?

I brought my own ammunition with me.

How did you handle the lunch situation?

I ate at Beach Café, and I really don't like it any more. The food is very mediocre and just not very good.

Do you have any dinner suggestions?

The steakhouse in the Nugget Casino was pretty good. Also, the restaurant in the winery is good.
